The future of Route 34 in Downtown Derby
|Date:||May 4, 2017|
Your attendance is respectfully requested at Derby City Hall at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 22, 2017 for an important presentation on the Route 34 road improvement project (CTDOT project #36-184). A public comment period will follow the presentation. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. for a preview of the design proposals.
Your input, captured through Downtown Now!, gave shape to the downtown master plan that was recently adopted by Derby’s Planning and Zoning Commission. The plan motivated the City of Derby to revisit the proposed Route 34 design.
“Our goal is to rebuild Route 34 in a manner that will foster development consistent with the historic ‘Main Street’ our citizens want to replicate,” said Mayor Anita Dugatto.
Downtown Now! project consultants have determined that the proposed roadway design is at odds with the vision the community has for a vibrant, walkable city center that seamlessly integrates the north side of Main Street with the rivers. It is also out of sync with the requests of the development community.
“While the current Route 34 design is very good, we feel it can better serve our community-inspired goals with some additional tweaks,” Dugatto said.
It is important for you, our valued community members, business owners, and potential investors, to rally behind us as we appeal to the Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments and State of Connecticut to build a roadway for Derby’s future that will best support the economically vibrant downtown citizens desire.
Please show your support for the future of Derby and its downtown by attending the meeting on May 22 and making your voice heard.
