DOWNTOWN NOW! Steady Progress Being Made
|Date:||October 18, 2017|
A note from Mayor Dugatto...
My administration has been working hard to bring to life the vision Derby residents have for a vibrant downtown that will expand our local economy and strengthen our tax base. This vision was created in collaboration with residents, business owners, developers and other community stakeholders. The master plan created from this vision took into account site conditions and market trends to ensure it is credible and implementable.
As you can imagine, a project of this magnitude and complexity has many moving parts. However, our persistent efforts have resulted in steady progress. Here are a few notable milestones:
1.) Derby’s Planning and Zoning Commission adopted the ‘U’ Street master plan and is currently working to amend zoning regulations to facilitate the desired development
2.) A local developer has purchased the former Lifetouch building at 90 Main Street, a cornerstone property in the redevelopment zone
3.) Derby has been awarded a $5 million grant to install a street network, utility infrastructure, sidewalks, and streetscaping associated with our master plan
4.) CT Department of Transportation officials have just announced that the remaining buildings on the south side of Main Street, impacted by the Route 34 reconstruction project, will be demolished within 90 days
I have issued a press release with more details on our progress. Click here to learn more.
Thank you for your continued interest and support as we work together for the betterment of our city.
Mayor Anita Dugatto
