The City of Derby maintains a Picnic Grove for public use in the Leo F. Ryan Athletic Complex in town. The Grove is located on Nutmeg Avenue. It has a large covered pavilion renovated by the Public Works Department, ample parking, an open field, and some horseshoe pits. There are tennis courts and a basketball courts adjacent, and a baseball field, track, and softball field are within walking distance in the Ryan Complex.

The fee for the use of the facility are as follows:
Residents or organizations from Derby:
$250.00 (for park use) – due with contract signing.
$ 100.00 (for security) due with contract signing.
$350.00 Total
Non Resident or organizations:
$400.00 (for park use) – due with contract signing.
$100.00 (for security) – due with contract signing.
$500.00 Total
Payment (check made payable to the City of Derby) must be received in full, with the signed contract, no later than 15 days after it is mailed by the city of derby. Full refund will be issued only with a one-month notice of cancelation
