Stormwater Management

Stormwater runoff is generated when precipitation from rain and snowmelt events flow over land or impervious surfaces and does not percolate into the ground.

The Public Works Department is an integral partner in Derby's Stormwater Management Plan.

The City of Derby is registered under the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s (DEEP) General Permit for the Discharge of Stormwater from Small Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4), Registration No. GSM000114.  As part of the compliance with the MS4 General Permit, the City of Derby is required to compile an annual report of the activities conducting during the previous year in meeting the goals established in the MS4 General Permit.  One of the goals established is that the City needs to look for opportunities for getting the community involved in both the planning and implementation process of improving water quality.  Questions or comments on the annual report may be provided to the Public Works Director at (203) 736-1468, via email at  PublicWorks@derbyct.gov, or in person at 49 Coon Hollow Road, Derby.
